Kazakh Shalgam (Radish Salad)

  • 1 daikon radish grated into thin strips
  • 1 carrot grated into thin strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced thinly
  • 1 white onion, cut thinly
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • For the dressing
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne or more if you like it hot
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  1. In a bowl, mix all the salad ingredients together.
  2. In a small bowl put in all the dressing ingredients and whisk together
  3. Pour dressing over salad and toss
  4. Serve cold or room temperature
