Malaysian Fried Bananas (Pisang Goreng)

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe baby bananas or 2 regular bananas cut in half and peeled
  • 1/2 cup self raising flour
  • 1/4 cup corn flour
  • 1 Tablespoon rice flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3 fluid oz of ice cold water
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons oil to add to batter
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • Mix together all the ingredients for the batter except the water.
  • Start adding the water using a whisk to make sure there are no lumps and the batter is a smooth consistency.
  • Add more water if required
  • Put the bananas in the batter and leave them there for about 5 minutes
  • Heat the oil in a pan or deep fryer to about 325 degrees
  • Fry the bananas until golden brown turning as necessary
  • Remove the bananas and set on a paper towel to drain any excess oil
  • Serve warm with some sweet soy sauce for a real treat!
